Miles4Migrants Raising Miles During Pride Month Through United Airlines’ Miles on a Mission Platform

Starting this Pride Month, MileagePlus members can donate miles to support the reunification of refugees and asylum seeking individuals through United’s Miles on a Mission Platform

New Orleans, LA – Today, Miles4Migrants announces it has launched a campaign to raise miles on United’s crowdsourcing platform, Miles on a Mission. MileagePlus members looking to support the LGBTQ+ community can donate miles to help Miles4Migrants reunite separated refugees, asylees and asylum-seekers around the globe, including those who are part of the LGBTQ+ community. Miles4Migrants is one of seven organizations currently raising miles on the Miles on a Mission platform.

Miles4Migrants is aiming to raise five million miles. These miles will help support Miles4Migrants’ broader mission of using donated airline miles, points and money to cover the flights of those who are legally approved to relocate but cannot otherwise afford the cost of airfare. To help Miles4Migrants reach this goal, United will match all donations up to 500,000 miles for each campaign on the platform.

The individuals that we support have faced persecution, violence, and discrimination at the hands of their governments, communities, and often even their own family. Finding new homes in supportive communities is their greatest chance at living lives of freedom and safety,” said Seth Stanton, Co-founder of Miles4Migrants. “Of the thousands of people we have flown, many are from the LGBTQ+ community and escaping persecution because of their sexual orientation and gender identity. During Pride Month, we are honored to partner with United Airlines to transform miles into a life-changing force for good.”

Miles on a Mission is part of United’s Every Action Counts pledge, which aims to connect people, unite the world and serve communities by putting people and planes to work for the greater good. Eligible charities can apply for the chance to launch a 28-day campaign to raise miles that help them deliver on their missions through travel.

“At United, we’re committed to supporting and celebrating the LGBTQ+ community year-round, and especially during this year’s Pride Month, when so many are facing challenging times,” said Suzi Cabo, managing director of Social Impact Optimization, United Airlines. “We’re proud to provide a platform for these important organizations and help them raise miles that will directly support individuals in the LGBTQ+ community.”

How Miles4Migrants helps

We collaborate with a network of global non-governmental organization (NGO) partners who work directly with refugees and migrants to identify and verify individuals who are financially unable to afford air travel. Once our partners submit flight requests, we use donated frequent flyer miles, credit card points, travel vouchers, and cash to eliminate transportation barriers for the most vulnerable individuals affected by war, persecution, or climate disaster. Our goal is to help these individuals reunite with their loved ones and start a new life in a safe environment.

Support our work

– According to the United Nations, there are currently 108 million individuals forcibly displaced from their homes worldwide.

– The Universal Declaration of Human Rights states that seeking asylum is a fundamental human right. Everyone has the right to life and liberty. Everyone has the right to freedom from fear. Everyone has the right to seek asylum from persecution.

As migration is often the last option for survival, migrants may embark on clandestine journeys, subject to danger, extortion, and inhumane conditions

Once they finally get legal approval for resettlement, migrants face another challenge that makes the journey seem impossible: the transportation costs.

There are many ways for you to get involved and help us continue our work:

You can donate cash to help us cover operational expenses or contribute your unused air miles, credit card points, or travel vouchers to help us book flights for refugees and asylum seekers. Additionally, you can help us spread the word about our cause and our impact on the lives of those we serve.

Every donation, no matter how big or small, has the power to make a difference. Thank you for considering supporting our mission.
