Miles4Migrants Launches Campaign on United Airlines’ New Miles Crowdsourcing Platform

MileagePlus members can now donate miles to support the reunification of refugees and asylum seeking families through United’s Miles on a Mission Platform

NEW ORLEANS, LA – Today, Miles4Migrants announces that United Airlines MileagePlus members can now donate their miles to help reunite separated refugee and asylum seeking families across the globe. United chose Miles4Migrants as one of the first campaigns for its brand-new Miles on a Mission crowdfunding platform. Through Miles on a Mission, MileagePlus members can use their miles for good and contribute to campaigns that help support communities in need.

Miles4Migrants is aiming to raise five million miles to support our mission of helping refugees, asylees and asylum seekers reach safety and their loved ones  These miles will help support Miles4Migrants’ broader mission of using donated airline miles, points and money to pay for the flights of those who are legally approved to join their family in a new location, but who cannot otherwise afford the cost of airfare to reach their family and loved ones. To help Miles4Migrants reach this goal, United will match the first 50,000 miles earned for this campaign.

“At Miles4Migrants, we use donated miles, points and money to reunite families separated by war, persecution, and disaster.  Since our inception, we have provided free flights for over 1,600 individuals,” said Andy Freedman, co-founder and managing director of Miles4Migrants. “That’s why we’re excited to launch this campaign through Miles on a Mission, a program that will provide us with the crucial support we need to continue to transform miles into a life-changing force for good.”

Miles on a Mission is a part of United’s Every Action Counts pledge, which aims to connect people, unite the world and serve communities by putting people and planes to work for the greater good.  Eligible charities can apply for the chance to launch a 28-day campaign to raise miles that help them deliver on their missions through travel.

“We want to make a difference in the communities where our customers and employees live, work and fly,” said Sharon Grant, vice president and chief community engagement officer at United Airlines. “Miles on a Mission not only allows us to connect with even more organizations than before but also gives our customers a new way to use their miles in a way that supports the charities and causes that mean the most to them.”
